Hope in One Hemisphere — HFA at the Kids Rehab Conference 2025
It was an absolute pleasure to join Dr. Stephanie Smith at her presentation today at the Kids Rehab Conference 2025.
Dr. Smith shared a powerful presentation — “A retrospective review of the functional outcomes of children from Queensland Children’s Hospital (QCH) who underwent a hemispheric separation neurosurgery for medically refractory epilepsy from 2014 to 2022.”
This important work highlights the long-term outcomes and recovery experiences of children who have undergone hemispheric separation — and the ways rehabilitation continues to shape their journeys.
Our President, Kelly Wilton, had the opportunity to share a few words about Hemispherectomy Foundation Australia (HFA) — our mission, impact, and the crucial role of peer support in helping families navigate the many transitions that follow surgery and rehabilitation.
We’re so grateful that HFA continues to be recognised as a supportive and collaborative partner in this space — ensuring that the voices of families are heard, valued, and connected.
