A Family’s Vision
Hemispherectomy Foundation Australia (HFA) was formally established as an Incorporated Association, marking the beginning of a dedicated community for hemispherectomy families in Australia.
February 2013
Charity Recognition
HFA was officially registered as a Health Promotion Charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission (ACNC), providing a strong foundation for growth and advocacy.
August 2013
First Grant and Resources
HFA received its first grant from the Victorian Government, enabling the launch of a Facebook support group, an official website, and hospital brochures to connect families with vital resources.
December 2013
Our First HemiCon
The first HemiCon was held on the Gold Coast, bringing hemispherectomy families together from across Australia for connection, learning, and hope.
March 2017
Care Programs
HFA introduced HemiHugs, a program delivering care packages and support to children undergoing surgery, ensuring families felt cared for during their most challenging times.
2018
Adapting Through Challenge
When the pandemic limited in-person gatherings, HFA expanded online programs and virtual support, keeping families connected across states and territories.
2020
Raising Awareness
HFA strengthened partnerships, participated in international collaborations, and shared stories to raise awareness of hemispherectomy surgery within the medical and wider community.

A Decade of Support
HFA marked ten years of dedicated service to families, reflecting on a decade of connection, advocacy, and hope, while setting a vision for the future.

Global Collaboration
HFA began an exciting collaboration with the Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Alliance (PESA), linking Australian families with international resources, knowledge, and advocacy to expand support and strengthen global connections. ’

Strengthening Inclusion
HFA was honoured to receive the Inclusion and Accessibility Grant from the Australian Government’s Department of Social Services, empowering us to expand programs, reach more families, and ensure every member of our community feels seen, supported, and included.
