Helpful adaptive aids for hemispherectomy children, young people and adults
The loss of fine motor function in the hand opposite the affected side is a common consequence of hemispherectomy surgery. As a result, many of our children and young people learn to navigate daily life using one hand in a world that is largely designed for two.
Families often discover small tools, clever work-arounds and specialised equipment that can make everyday tasks easier and support growing independence.
This guide is not exhaustive, but it brings together products and equipment that families in our community have found helpful.
One of the most loved sessions at our HemiCons is “What Works, What’s a Waste,” where families generously share the tips, gadgets and equipment that have made life a little easier for their children and young people.
If you have discovered something that has worked well for your family, we would love to hear from you. Sharing these ideas helps other families who are walking a similar path.
