Some of our hemispherectomy families at HemiCon Sydney 2023

HemiCon

Hemispherectomy Foundation Australia’s family conferences (HemiCons) are biennial events designed exclusively for Australian and New Zealand families whose children have undergone hemispherectomy surgery or who may require hemispherectomy surgery at some time.

What HemiCon’s Offer

HemiCons bring together families to help give them the information they need to help ensure the best possible health and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people throughout their lives. Our conferences provide:

  • Evidence-based information presented by a range of clinicians and researchers to support optimal physical and psychosocial outcomes
  • Sessions for parents and siblings – trauma informed care
  • Expert guidance on preventative care and early intervention strategies to address ongoing health needs of hemispherectomy children and young people
  • Shared tips, strategies and assistive technology to help living with a hemiplegia
  • Peer connections that create lasting, supportive friendships among children, young people, and families who truly understand the hemispherectomy journey

Why families attend

HemiCons help empower families with the knowledge and tools they need to proactively manage their hemispherectomy children’s and young people’s health, helping to prevent acute or chronic conditions before they develop.

More than just a conference, HemiCon is where lifelong connections are forged with others who “get it.”

HemiCons are unmissable events for our community.

Our most recent HemiCon was held on the beautiful Gold Coast in May 2025. Here’s what families had to say:

“I honestly have no words to describe how grateful and thankful I am to have been part of the Hemicon 2025. The information that we took home is so important for us!”

“We had an amazing time with all the hemi families over the last few days, thanks for giving us the opportunity to meet and share our experiences together…forever thankful!!

”Thanks again team – such a wonderful event!”

“I just wanted to thank you for having us at the Hemicon this year. We feel so blessed to have met so many wonderful families, for all the support that we received and for all the important information provided for us as a family.”

” Thank you to all the Hemicon organisers, presenters and families that attended and put so much effort to making the Hemicon 2025 happen. It was such a welcoming and wonderful event for both the families and our Hemi heroes. We enjoyed meeting everyone and are continuing to learn new things. A special shout out to all the Young Adult Hemi’s …. we absolutely loved meeting you all and especially enjoyed the Q&A’s on the last day.”

“Thank you to all the organisers for the conference, you all did such a fantastic event! I’ve learned an incredible amount. Thank you for all the people who I’ve had little chats and big heart talks to, shared a giggle with and shed a tear with. You all truly get it!”
